Good GRuB: What is good for the youth is good for the Olympia community

It’s a farm, right in the heart of Olympia. Their mission is clear, “Garden-Raised Bounty (GRuB) is a grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to nourishing a strong community by empowering people and growing good food.”

But how do you do that? One way is to reach out to the future leaders of a community…the youth. Says Kerensa Mabwa, Community Engagement Coordinator at GRuB, “The youth come here for what they think is a job but somewhere along their volunteer process they stop seeing themselves as recipients of a service and start seeing themselves as providers for the community.”

Additionally, GRuB is dedicated to plugging people into farming to create a self-sufficiency around food security. A perfect example of this occurs through GRuB’s Kitchen Garden Project (KGP) which connects low-income residents in the community to resources, provided by GRuB, to grow their own fresh food.
